ONDM Summer School joint with the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master degrees programme and the H2020 5G-PPP project 5G-PICTURE

The summer school will offer a set of presentations addressing MSc and PhD students in the fields of Optical and 5G Networking. This will include:

SMARTNET

SMARTNET  is a collaborative two-year Erasmus Mundus joint master degree programme with the goal to provide training in the inter-disciplinary fields of photonic and 5G wireless technologies for data communication, sensing and big data processing. It will be accomplished by leading European Universities with distinctive and complementary academic qualities and strong educational and research traditions, namely:

5G – PICTURE

5G – PICTURE develops and demonstrates a converged fronthaul and backhaul infrastructure integrating advanced wireless and novel optical network solutions. Τo address the limitations of current Radio Access Network (RAN) approaches, 5G-PICTURE exploits flexible functional architectures to optimise resource and energy efficiency. Key enablers for 5G-PICTURE are network “softwarization” and “hardware programmability”. To validate the capabilities of its architecture, 5G-PICTURE will demonstrate converged fronthaul and backhaul services in:

  • a smart city environment in Bristol, UK
  • a 5G railway experimental testbed showcasing seamless service provisioning and mobility management in high-speed moving environments in Barcelona, Spain
  • a stadium with ultra-high user density, supporting media services in Bristol, UK
